Microsoft Kinect Sports: Season 2
Hut Hut Hut Hut Hut…
THE SCENARIO
Mediavest: Canada approached Gorilla Nation Canada to help promote the Season 2 of their well known Microsoft Kinect Sports Video Game on our feature publisher NFL.com.

Besides the bevy of updates to the Season 2 of Microsoft Kinect Sports – some of the NEW features the client wanted to highlight in this campaign was the addition of the AMERICAN FOOTBALL sport as well as NEW Voice & Sound recognition functionality of the Kinect Hardware.

To promote the NEW features of the game we pitched a Rich Media Augmented Reality Overlay Game that upon load initiated the user's web camera and allowed the movement of the users hands to dictate the game play. Unfortunately, due to an extremely tight timeline, decreased budget and limited assets we had to re-conceptualize the original functionality and slightly tweak the concept in order to work within a pre-exisitng Shooter Game Engine which we then modified with extra functionality.

THE CONCEPT
The final concept of the game is based from the actual Kinect Sports gameplay. Specifically, the newly added American Football sport. We created a game that immersed the user in the intensity and grandure that is American Football - larger then life stadium brimming with lights and the roaring of the fans.

The goal of the Game - like that of American Football - is to score as many field goals or “Touchdowns” within a given period of time - in our case 30 seconds. To mimic the Kinect User  Control quality of the Game we allowed the user to control the Quarterback via the mouse. For the user to make the perfect pass they simply moved the mouse left to right to move the Quarterback across the field to bypass Blockers and with the click of the mouse allowed the user to throw the ball to the Receiver.

ANIMATION
To immerse the user in the American Football sport we created an environment that had all the nuances of a real game. For every 5 touchdowns the user scored the Stadium lights would turn up, the crowd would roar accompanied by a bevy of flashing camera lights. When, a play wouldn't go as plan we also included sounds of the crowd booing to really test the user's focus.
SOCIAL NETWORKING CAPABILITIES
Once a user completed the game they had the ability to share offer up some good ol' clean competition with their Friend's and Family by sharing their Score via Facebook Share and/or Email.
